AI & Mental Health
I have many aspirations for this course. I think that my creative mind has allowed me the ability to conjure content, but I now must determine the validity and relevance of that content. I want to explore the world of AI and the realm of mental health. I intend to learn research techniques such as the "interpretivist" research goal. I want to analyze the way humans interact with technology, particularly AI. I also want to learn how to process and write complex text. For my topic, I believe the Qualitative method would be the best option. The qualitative method uses the words and actions of the test participants. I want to know how people feel when they interact with AI for their mental health needs.
I have two different topics of interest for my research proposal. I am interested in mental health. I am interested in AI and its progression in the professional world. I think converging the two ideas might make for a compelling research project. For example, how is AI used to manage mental health? For example, AI can interpret patient data to comprise a personalized therapy regime. I want to explore mental illness and the interface that AI has in the early detection of mental illness. How will AI revolutionize treatment?
AI trends in the medical field include remote robots, artificial agents, automated surgery, and patient rehabilitation. AI can collect data and analyze patterns to identify mental illness in a patient. For example, AI can review CAT scans and brain imaging to see abnormalities in a patient. The complexity in which AI operates is astounding and very promising for the future. Certain algorithms process a variety of data such as biomarkers, genetics, medical history, activity levels, lifestyle, and treatment outcomes.
AI provides the option for virtual therapists who can give continuous support. The nervous anticipation of meeting with a doctor is alleviated, and presumed judgment is reserved. The stigma of seeking help for mental health disorders is ameliorated. AI can source information from a variety of contexts, such as CBT and DBT sources, to provide a detailed comprehensive therapy session.
The future of AI is exciting. There are so many different applications for AI. AI can collect information in a plethora of ways such as accessing electronic health records, diagnostic tests, genetic testing, and interpreting behavioral patterns. Not only can AI analyze data and interpret brain scans, but AI can also conduct a therapy session. AI is proving to be a most useful assistant in the mental health field. Advancements in AI will only make usability more conducive for humans and the resistance less apparent. People will be able to have more privacy regarding mental health and experience more objectivity in their interactions with mental illness. For example, people make assumptions about the well-being of another individual based on instinct. AI makes calculations about a person's well-being based on data. I want to explore these ideas in greater depth and write with conviction in my explanations. I am fascinated by the concept of AI and have an invested interest in mental health. I will be preoccupied with advancing my knowledge base on the two topics. I plan to use the interpretivist goal and the qualitative method to explain my findings.
